Qualifications

  1. BS degree in Medical Technology
  2. Currently licensed by the state of Louisiana state license for Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
  3. Minimum three years of Clinical Laboratory experience, and at least one year of supervisory experience in a Lab.

Responsibilities:

  1. To collect blood specimens skillfully according to policy and procedure
  2. To evaluate laboratory specimens promptly and proficiently
  3. To notify R.N. or physician of any panic/critical value promptly
  4. To participate in all aspects of the work schedule.
  5. To maintain laboratory records and equipment.
  6. To conduct self in professional manner at all times.

 SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Performs laboratory tests and procedures requiring independent judgement and interpretation including all test categories under CLIA’88. Including ordering, processing, documenting, and reporting per policy and procedure.
  2. Performs and evaluates quality control, assists in method validation, and maintains and troubleshoots instruments.
  3. Perform venipunctures, capillary punctures, throat swabs, nasopharyngeal swabs, and chain-of-custody drug screen collections.
  4. Encourage professional growth and development through identification of needs, directing training programs, encouraging education (formal and continuing) and evaluate the same.
  5. Publish and maintain a staffing schedule for all Laboratory Personnel.
  6. Responsible for the day to day staffing, and on-call for needs related to staffing. May be required to fill shifts on occasion or as needed.
  7. Attends hospital or other necessary meeting as the Laboratory representative as needed.
  8. Orders inventory as needed.
  9. Participate/host in departmental meetings and hospital in-services and continuing education.
  10. Regularly communicates with the general supervisor, technical consultant, and laboratory director regarding any issues or needs that arise.
  11. Required to participate in monthly QA and PI.
